Microsoft Teams, the video conferencing service by Microsoft, is getting several latest updates, including the power to use custom photos as background images during video calls. The feature is out there to users of the platform’s free version and Indian customers of Teams can use it also. Users of Microsoft Teams free version also can now schedule meetings and share links via Outlook or Google calendar. The Redmond company during a blog post has stated that Teams customers within the US can activate live captions during their calls and meetings also.

With the newest upgrades added to the platform, Microsoft is hoping to offer fierce competition to competitors like Zoom and Google Meet. During a blog post, corporate vice chairman for Microsoft 365, Jared Spataro announced that the recent updates are results of Teams’ growing userbase amid the worldwide pandemic.

Custom background Microsoft Teams


Starting with the new custom background effects on Microsoft Teams, the corporate notes that users can customise the background by uploading their images or choosing one among the collections of backgrounds available online. The platform already allows users to settle on personal backgrounds during a video call, additionally to the choice to blur background.

Microsoft is additionally adding event-specific background collections for its users. Starting June 16, users can download exclusive LGBTQI+ background photos to celebrate pride month.

To upload a custom photo during a Team video call, users got to select More actions (represented by three horizontal dots) on the screen > Show background effects > Click on Add new.
